Editorial #1 – August 26th 1939 – Disturbances in Europe: Unanswered Questions about Germany

It has been the better part of a year since Germany decided to take the remainder of Czechoslovakia in 1938. This raised a great deal of concern from the League of Nations which decided to appease and give in to German demands. The Great War of 1914 left our previous generation in ruin and yet our countries still seem unwilling to work together. Germany’s recent behavior under their younger, fearless, and passionate dictator has left Europe with many questions.

The outcome of The Great War was supposed to leave Germany humble rather than powerful. What happened? Why are other nations bowing down to Germany’s demands when it was Germany left devastated after our Great War? Why do we hear nothing except silence from Germany these days? The German people seem to have been nothing but silent within the past several weeks. Is their chancellor, Adolf Hitler someone to be feared or admired? While he has taken the independence of Czechoslovakia, he has created a passionate German people and a renewed and powerful economy under the Nazi Socialist Party. Time will tell whether he is a hero or villain. Our League of Nations needs to adopt a stricter policy in dealing with Germany since Germany should be feeble and weak after our Great War.

While Britain and this newspaper certainly do not approve of Germany’s taking of Czech independence, the fact that heads of state around the globe are so alarmed and afraid of Germany seems to be hasty and pointless behavior. We live in a Europe that fully understands the consequences of general war to the extent that Europe will not risk it again. Any real fear of Germany, or any nation for that matter seems like trying to create a solid argument from pure wind. The Daily Mirror understands that Europe’s status quo will resume and society should not judge a fearless and passionate dictator just because they are active and aggressive in charging up the attitudes and passions of their own people.
Life goes on…

  2. the reason Germany has come into such great power is because they have taken hold of the tail of the powerful and ruthless, Adolf Hitler.
He has won the hearts of many. He will stop at nothing to overcome the enemy he faces. gathering fans is just the start of his plan. the next step is and will be his greatest feat.
